The Alhambra was the royal palace and capital of the Kingdom of Granada. Under the patronage of the Nasrid Dynasty, for a quarter of a millennium, Granada was a rare place where Muslim and Christian civilizations could come together in a spirit of tolerance to pursue commerce, science, and the arts. It is said that at one point, there were more books in Granada than in all of Europe combined.
Today, five hundred years after the Nasrids ruled Granada, the Alhambra palace remains one of the world’s great artistic and architectural treasures. Its cultural value to humanity is recognized by its classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our organization’s ultimate goal is to promote commerce, scholarship, understanding, and closer relations between two of the world’s great civilizations, Islam and the West. Seeking a name that embodies the spirit of this goal, we pay tribute to the legacy of the Alhambra and invoke its noble values by adopting the name of the Alhambra-US Chamber of Commerce.
